Debug-mode

Debug mode is a special mode that can be unlocked after completing the game. It gives the player access to developer options and can be unlocked after completing everything there is to do in the game.

Features[]

Magic Boots[]

The Magic Boots are the main item that is used to enable Debug Mode. Using them allows the player to walk over anything by holding down the CTRL key and to access the Debug Menu.

Debug Menu[]

The debug menu is a special menu that can be opened by pressing the F9 key while the player is wearing the Magic Boots. It allows the player to play around with the various Developer options. Many of the options in this menu can easily break the game and/or save, so it should be used with caution. It is recommended to backup your savefile before using any of the debug options.

In addition, Debug Mode also adds an additional option in the Pokémon summary screen, which allows to set the values for a specific Pokémon.

These are the options of the debug menu:

  • Switches
  • Variables
  • Refresh Map
  • Warp to map
  • Heal Party
  • Add Item
  • Use PC
  • Set Player Character
  • Set Money
  • Set Badges
  • Toggle Running Shoes
  • Toggle Pokédex
  • Quick Hatch
  • Set Metadata
  • Set Terrain Tags
  • Reset Trainers
  • Map Connections
  • Animation Editor
  • Debug Console

How to unlock[]

There are two ways to unlock Debug Mode.

Completing the Pokédex[]

After catching the 470 base Pokémon in any non randomized mode, the player can go see the Frogman game developer in Celadon City to unlock Debug Mode and be given the Magic Boots.

Note: Do not visit Testing/Debug island. This is known as Crash island and can corrupt your save file.

This method will not work if the player turned on Randomized Mode at any point during the playthrough.

New Game +[]

It is possible to duplicate the Magic Boots from one save to a fresh save through the following steps:

  1. Save your game to avoid any data loss.
  2. Access the Debug Menu and find the information editor.
  3. In the information editor, go to items and change the Magic Boots to be treated as a held item. Even if your game crashes during this step, don't worry—it will still work.
  4. Choose a Pokémon from your PC and give it the Magic Boots as a held item.
  5. Start a new save file using the New Game + feature.
  6. In the new save, retrieve the Magic Boots from the Pokémon that holds them.
  7. Congratulations! You have successfully duplicated the Magic Boots in your new save.
  8. If you wish, you can use the Magic Boots to clear your PC, providing a fresh start in the new save.
