This route has two distinctive biome, which offers different catch tables:
The first being a canyon, where several trainers and items are present, as well as two small patch of grass, which connects to the Cerulean City terminal.
The second being a stream bank, with a large patch of grass, and connects to Route 10 and Cerulean Cape.
To reach Cerulean Cape, the player needs both Surf and Waterfall (or their respective HM Replacement Items).
Given by the trainer after showing him a Pokémon with the moves Aqua Jet, Waterfall and Fly.

Camper Chris will trade you one of his Pokémon any fairy type Pokémon. Hiker Brice will trade you one of his Pokémon any ground type Pokémon of level 15. Although the player can surf and fish in this route, there are no Pokémon to catch.
