Type Experts are trainers found throughout the game who specialize in a particular type of Pokémon. When battling them, the player can only use Pokémon of that type. If defeated, they will give the player clothing representing their type.
After defeating the Normal Expert in Cerulean City, a quest will be started with a counter to track how many experts the player has defeated.

While wearing the clothing rewarded by an expert, after winning any battle the player has a 10% chance of obtaining a random item, similar to the Pickup ability except the items go into the player's bag.
